Aesop (pronounced “ee-sop”) is a luxury skin care brand founded in Melbourne, Australia in 1987 by hairdresser, Dennis Paphitis. Paphitis started the line by mixing essential oils into the products he used everyday to combat the strong ammonia scents. Starting with a wholesaling distribution strategy, Aesop products were sold to retailers in Australia, quickly reaching the US market in the late 1980’s.
